DFI GISBORNE | Day 6
LEARNING ABOUT SITES
Today's session continued to clarify my understanding around the need to ensure learning is visible and accessible by all. Teachers, students and leaders. This is the means by which opportunities to connect and collaborate with others are formed. Nāu te rourou, nāku te rourou, ka ora ai te iwi.
Learning about using embedded Google Drawings has enabled me to think about the home page of a site. Specifically taking into consideration the audience of a site. How might we ensure that ALL learners are able to access learning in a meaningful way to them? Do we provide multiple ways of accessing the same learning via our sites? Great pondering and discussion. Our site design team took these ideas and considerations into to hart when setting out to design our site. We wanted to create a site that helps learners navigate the content that has been curated for them - showing how learning weaves together.
Admittedly we took a bigger bite than intended initially... but learnt about site building, the importance of a site plan and an understanding of the client who will access the site was very cool learning.
I have become aware of the need to provide more scaffolding to my learners when they are initially designing a site and that having that site plan displayed somewhere to refer back to is important. Does a site review need to happen more often than letting a teacher wait till the end of the year (if this isn't happening organically already).
I'm looking forward applying some of these considerations around site design with our Tairāwhiti Cluster site. How might we simplify navigation, make it easier for others to navigate, explore and contribute? I'm thinking of creating a Google Drawing to show navigation in a different way to enable more critical reflection about its design and implementation.

Kia ora Herman,
ReplyDeleteI really like the way you are thinking with your reflections about site building and getting teachers to review these. I wonder how we might build into our facilitation an opportunity for this to happen? Could we have a PLG for our teachers for facilitation with a review as part of this?

Hi Herman, You're really thinking critically about site design. It's so important to consider how learners are accessing and engaging with content, as if they're not able to engage easily we've lost them! Ka mau te wehi.
