Mark Osborne @Mangapapa - 19/5/16

My morning started with a visit to a coffee shop. I tried to purchase my coffee using my new found favourite way of paying... PAYWAVE via Smartphone! Eagerly I swiped my phone over the terminal. "We don't have Paywave sorry." I imagined that there would be no better way of paying and that the world had already converted to this obviously superior technology. Never make assumptions

This got me thinking about how companies are closing the gap between 'Having Money' and using PayWave. Is it their job to do so? Who should be pushing the concept and vision?

In teaching we are faced with similar issues. I find myself feeling responsible for pushing education forward into the 21st Century. How do I do this? How much of this visioning and progress is possible within my role as teacher/leader of e-Learning?

My biggest learning from the Mark Osborne course was...

1. TAKE SMART RISKS. We should not be afraid to make errors! - Do what GOOD Research says works, review, rethink, relearn. What are the needs of a Community? (Classroom, Parents, Gisborne, NZ?)

2. Learner Agency:  'The Power to Act'. Opportunities to develop agency has been proven to develop the Prefrontal Cortex; developing critical thinking, decision making, and analysis.

3. As a Learner (and teacher!) it is important to ALWAYS be a learner to keep up with the pace of the world. Learn, unlearn, relearn.

Further Ponderings:
Do we close the GAP between 'People holding on' and 'People ready to move'.

How do we construct a Universal Model for Teaching @GisInt

How would Mark see a classroom with 2 teachers working - workshops and conference time:
Mark suggested that we look at planning model document HERE that shows different ways people are teaching/planning for learning in an ILE. Looking for examples of best practice in already established environments would be advantageous.

What is our school 'Process' for implementing ILE?
Glen, Carrie, Emily and Myself are meeting to figure out how/what we are developing. Further thinking needs to be put into place when considering how our ILE will develop next year with the added physical space LIKE THESE. These are the COLLABORATIVE TEACHING MODELS DISCUSSED.

Prove it - Prove for SELF, CLASSMATE, TEACHER (Not just waiting for a teacher)

Conference Time

How do we reduce 'Workload'

THINKING AROUND IMPLEMENTING ILE WITH OTHER STAFF
Open Plan VS ILE (Make Clearer for Staff??? - It's about Pedagogy and Space)
- Pedagogy didn't change (Pedagogy)
- Acoustics NOT Good (Physical)
- Centrally Developed Solution (Mandate - No support!)

Impact Projects - Observe and question (Learner Agency)
