"What do you want to get out of your time here?"

Leadership: Joan Dalton

This was an interesting session where attendees where asked to think about the decisions they make when conversing, dealing with issues/conflict, and about having 'challenging conversations'. This process has made me reflect on the way that I communicate with staff; particularly important when my job revolves around interactions with parents, students, community, and peers.

Patrick Lencioni's Five Functions of dysfunction

It was interesting to see some of my MindLAB study/findings appearing elsewhere. Very cool feeling to know that what you are working on (for what seems forever ATM) in MindLAB has relevance everywhere!

Found this interesting diagram for my assignment about 'leadership and change', dealing with these dysfunctions but also offering strategies for overcoming/avoiding these pitfalls.

Key findings from Joan's Session:

  • It is good to paraphrase what a person has said to make them reflect on what the issue/problem is. This will be helpful when being asked to assist with questions/problems around 'tools' or 'information available already'.
  • Working on the listening aspect of Joan's teachings

My Session:

Was interesting to present my understandings and findings around 'Genius Hour' and to reflect on where I have been, where I am heading and what I can improve on to help students develop better connections between learning, life and the outside world.
